We set of on our latest collaborative Projection Bombing event. This time the facade of the Perth Oval (aka Members equity stadium. This was the first time I used the modified tagtool software in Perth and also corresponds to the official beginings of Graffiti research lab in Perth.

I havent been shouting it from roof tops but Ive been operating as an operative of GRL australia for sometime now. GRL is a global network of tech savvy individuals dedicated to outfitting graffiti writers and street artists with tools for urban communication, it all started in New York. You can see my posts on GRLaustralia.com. there seems to be alot of support for this kind of stuff in Perth, so along with Steve from ololo we are starting GRL Perth. check out the blog at www.GRLperth.com

Highest video art on Earth?

Mount Kinabalu is the highest Mountain in South east Asia. The Climb isn’t super difficult its an approx. 8.5km walk ascending approx. 3km upwards along the way. The Altitude makes it all a bit tiring but the view at the top is well worth the effort. At 4095 metres above sea level the view above the clouds is breath taking.

I climbed Mount Kinabalu. Was a great experience and I strongly recommend it. But what does a Video Performer do when he climbs a mountain? Take lots of Video of course… Ive got lots of weird video clips that will be great for my VJing.

BUT

I also Projector Bombed the Summit, in what is possibly the highest Projected Video / digital graffiti / VJing on Earth to date.

WOW your thinking you brought all that gear with you to the top of the mountain!!! not quite.. I have a new Projector and it fits in my pocket. Check out the video above, this thing rocks!

Sydney Design festival 09 - PowerHouse Museum

The PowerHouse Museum flew me (Jerrem Lynch) over to Sydney to help Projector Bomb the outside of their Building.

Unpacking a suitcase full of projection equipment I helped Sydney folk create a living breathing street art facade on the building. The event was called playlate at the PowerHouse Museum and was Part of the Annual Sydney Design Festival.

For this event I modified my equipment to run the Tagtool system. Tagtool is an Open Source hardware and software solution for live drawing and animation. It was designed by OMA International who are based in Vienna, Austria. It is a great system and I’m looking forward to using it more in the future.

onlookers were enchanted and participants excited to get involved in collaboratively refacing the building. I often forget that artists don’t usually hand over the reigns of there equipment for play… I had plenty of Sydney folk wishing they lived in Perth. Especially after I told them about our regular Collaborative Street Projection nights (in fact stay tuned another one coming up soon).

Projector Bombing inside the Condor Towers

Perth Street art Collective ololo brought together the best street artists to enliven the condor towers carpark. They gave me (Jerrem) a golf cart to crash the party with…
I turned it into a mobile street projection unit and we hypersaturated the place with electronic street art.

well done to ololo for organising such a great project and event, thousands of people came down to check it out. It was without a doubt a wildly successfull night. Proof that graffiti art/artists are loved in Perth.

But lets also not forget the awesome artists that spent hours laboring over such beautiful aerosol art. The carpark is 5 yes FIVE levels of art from artists such as Creepy, Stormie Mills, Jodee Knowles, Timothy Rollin, Hurben, THNK, Showbiz, Shime, Task, Pat Doherty, Trevor6025, Yo-Yo, Rifs, Daek, Sam DeSouza, Beastman, Drewfunk Yo, Kid Zoom, Reka, Grumps, and many, many more! if you wanna see some of the great graffiti that was painted check out http://www.ololo.info/adventures/condor-tower-carpark/

Video Mapping @ the Leedy

Lately I have been doing some Video Mapping at the Leederville Hotel, Leederville Western Australia. As you can see in my previous examples video mapping is projecting video art outside the constraints of the square screen, onto an uneven surfaces. By mapping out these extra shapes we can make surfaces come alive.

AV mixing experiments

Ive been thinking a lot about what an AV performance could be… Its not music and its not cinema either, it can afford to be something entirely different that draws from both practices. Community Projection Bombing - Perth - 8th May 2009

Community Street Projection back in Perth for 2009! After along rest I finally organised my first collaborative community event in Perth for 2009. As usually the facebook flashmob Street Projections Perth was mobilised onto the streets to decorate the architecture with light. Painting with my Tablet PC we gave Perth’s General Post office in Forrest Place some new paint schemes. We even had a surprise visit from Kat and Jasper who appeared above us projecting their VJ clips on the same building.

All in all a good night, a good mixture of regulars such as Aaron Mark (see image below by Yukikio Tan) whose friends drew him a nice bikini… hahaha nice work. See Yukiko’s Blog here

There was also plenty of new artists coming out of the wood work including the group of local Police officers who took a break from duties by defacing the side of a landmark city building. Hopefully getting more photos of that soon.

Projection Bombing - Adelaide - 4th May 2009

Last week I was in Adelaide Projector bombing… Over a year since my last trip to Adelaide where I met James and Evan from Graffiti Research Lab New York, and helped form the australian branch of GRL australia. Adelaide is still standing as a great city to projector bomb lots of white stone buildings just waiting for some art. And Whilst your there the Rundle lantern is pritty cool too.

Art residency - Merredin, WA

Last week I headed to Merredin for a community arts residency, supported by the shire council I spent 6 days collaborating with the people of Merredin to create some awesome temporary artworks over their buildings. Using my projector, laptops and portable power we digitally repainted the buildings with light. Although I was only there for a short time, we still managed to create some great transformations, literally turning the town into a open air digital art gallery. It was great to see locals reacting and thinking differently about there surroundings! By being on the street we where able to reach people that community art usually bypasses, there was plenty of questions and lots of people having a go. The Merredin Police even had a go at laser tag

Merredin is a regional centre approximately 260km east of perth, Its situated in the central wheatbelt, a large wheat farming area in Western Australia. The town has lots of great historic buildings from the goldrush days including the beautiful heritage listed C ummins Theatre built in 1897 and rebuilt in Merredin in 1928. Big thanks to Jane Bandurski for organising the residency and for her creative input into the project.

Vehicle Video Mapping (MX5 & ZX12R)

Below is an old video Dan recently dug up. Its a Video mapping experiment from around a year ago, Daniel mapped his car and I mapped over my motorbike (mazda mx5 & Kawasaki zx12r)

It was great getting Dan involved because he used his 3d modeling skills on his car to get some great effects. This video was shot on a mobile phone, which explains the poor quality… better stuff next time
